Team Leadership

Brandon Batham - Coach

Brandon has been involved in the speech and debate community for more than 15 years, and has coached at Burbank High School since 2021. He is the coach of the back-to-back 2022 and 2023 National Speech and Debate Association's World Schools Debate National Championship team (West Los Angeles Violet), along with several other state and nationally-ranked students. Brandon also serves as the Co-President for the Tri County Forensic League, and serves on the National Speech and Debate Association's West Los Angeles District Committee.

An operations and human resources professional by trade, Brandon volunteers his time and expertise because of his love for the activity, as well as a commitment to ensuring that Burbank High School students have the same opportunities he had when he attended BHS. He lives and works in Burbank with his wife and their two dogs.

Delia Sawatzki - Co-President

Delia has been a part of Speech and Debate since the first week of her freshman year and has held a myraid of officer positions, going from Historian to Vice President to Co- President! Born and raised in DC, Delia has always fostered an interest in politics, hence her favorite and main event, Extemp. Although, Delia does World Schools Debate and Parliamentary Debate from time to time. 

Delia has been campaigning for local candidates since she was nine and has continuously volunteered for female candidates. Delia is the Junior Rep for the California Scholarship Federation and has always fostered an avidity for the club. She's been a Girl Scout for eight years and has completed the 15, 50, 75 hour projects for Girl Scouts. In her free time, Delia enjoys traveling and Love Island UK. 

Edna Yeghnanyan - Co-President

Edna has been in Burbank's Speech and Debate team since her freshman year. Her favorite event is Worlds Schools Debate, though she can occasionally be forced into doing Congress. She has started coaching the debate program at Hoover High School, with the help of the wonderful administration there, and has found a true passion for teaching. She also introduced debate to her village while she was in Armenia and is working towards getting a permanent program established there. 

In her free time, she loves to read, with Camus and Dumas being favorites of hers. She is also the publisher of The Young Armenian journal and has started production on a city podcast, The Pomegranate, as an effort to spread community discourse and unity. 

Grace Glover - Vice President

Grace is so excited to be on the officers board for the 2023-2024 year! Grace first joined Burbank's Speech and Debate program in 10th grade, and immediately fell in love with it. Grace's primary events are Extemp, World Schools Debate, and Informative Speaking. Outside of debate, Grace loves reading and hanging out with her cats.

Nare Sheroyan - Secretary

Nare does public forum with her partner, Emily, and extemporaneous speaking. She loves to spend her free time watching Miraculous Ladybug and pulling all nighters to write cases in the middle of the night. She’s very excited for this upcoming year and can’t wait to body the competition.


Emily Chamichyan - Treasurer

Emily is thrilled to be an officer for speech and debate this year! She competes in Public Forum Debate with her partner, Nare, and also does Informative Speaking! In her free time she enjoys reading, writing, and playing the piano. She’s excited for the wonderful year ahead!

Raymond Salyers - Historian

This is Ray and he really really likes role playing as an active member of the United States government (Congress). He probably won’t write any of his cases until the night before. His teammates love him for that. ❤️ Add him on Fortnite: indianaj0nesy
